Project Introduction

Tokyo Keizai University Kokubunji Campus

Tokyo Keizai University Kokubunji Campus

The "Ikusen Cliff Line" is a 20-kilometer-long slope formed by the Tama River eroding the Musashino Plateau. It is an area characterized by diverse vegetation that retains the appearance of the Musashino Forest and the spring water found in the cliff's stagnant water surface.
The slope of the southern half of the campus of the Tokyo University of Economics in Kokubunji located within this cliff line is a densely wooded area covered with trees, and valuable environmental resources, including the "Shinjirou Pond" selected as one of the 57 designated water sources in Tokyo, are still preserved there.
In this plan, we have made it a theme to incorporate this natural environment throughout the campus and create a diverse space for students within a forest-like environment. By rearranging the existing school buildings, we restored the connection between the natural environment on the south side and the campus, and infused greenery into the center of the campus. The classroom buildings and library surrounding the central square are connected by a corridor, and a walking path leading to the forest is also being developed. By increasing the sense of movement, we aim to expand the students’ areas of activity and allow new spaces to emerge naturally.
