Kita City Central Library

Kita City Central Library

Expression of the character of a library

Recently, libraries have been increasing in the form of redevelopment buildings and multifunctional complexes. In this context, Kita Ward planned to build a single building. We designed the library with the aim of being “bright, open, friendly, and able to preserve materials for a long time.”

Expression that harmonizes with the surrounding environment

Since the site is located within a residential area, we planned an exterior design that respects privacy, and by taking advantage of the difference in elevation, we have managed to keep the building’s volume to a minimum. Additionally, since it is located in one corner of the central park expansion area, we have also carefully considered the “sense of unity with the park.”

Expression that coexists with brick warehouses

The brick warehouse that had been used as a building for the Tokyo Artillery Factory Gun Packaging Plant was still standing on the grounds. In the history of modern North Ward and the local history of the area, we took on the initiative of preserving and utilizing this brick warehouse, which is a valuable cultural asset, to make it a unique library.
