Ome City Hall
An open city hall that serves as the core of Ome City and welcomes its citizens
disaster-resilient and sustainable city hall
This project involved rebuilding the old city hall, which had been in use for about 50 years, to update its safety and functionality and to provide even better administrative and citizen services. From the competition to design and supervision, centered around the City Hall Construction Division and working together with representatives from each department, we realized a secure, safe, and sustainable city hall.
A welcoming and accessible community hub where anyone can easily drop by
Shifting from "handling citizens" to "hospitality for customers," and returning to the fundamental principle that "the city hall exists for the citizens," we have created a spacious, highly versatile lobby.
This first-floor lobby features a full lineup of citizen service counters. In addition, with relaxing conversation areas, it has become a familiar city hall reminiscent of a "public living room."
From participation to engagement: creating a space where citizens and the administration work together to support daily life
The spacious lobby area hosts municipal events and citizen-led presentations. The meeting rooms are also actively used by civic groups. The second floor features a space for disseminating information to the public, and the adjacent café "Dandan," operated by a local association for persons with disabilities, serves as a place for employment support, social participation, and interaction, beloved by all visitors.
